Sister Nadeen’s Ways
Nadeen Simmons prides herself on being the perfect Christian and maintaining that reputation in the eyes of her church members, pastor and sisters of her prayer circle. She rules her household with no room for disobedience. If the household can not get in line she will put them in line with physical force if necessary.
She allows no room for her three girls to make any mistakes that would embarrass her or her church reputation. She is assured that her husband Kenny Simmons is bound for hell and there is nothing that can be done to stop him. Since he can not rule his household she runs it and she has decided to wear the pants and the belt. She keeps her house in order with the spirit of fear but she thinks it is the Spirit of God.
The only one that can make her bend is her mother, with whom she has a shaky relationship because of the secrets of her past.
Reprobate Ways
“I felt so sad for Ann. She was manipulated and lost, but how could she not be when her own mother wasn’t present? She was too busy pleasing her Pastor instead of loving her daughter. Felicia Brookins has done an excellent job with this book.”
– Margaret Bullocks, Circle of Color Book Club
“Everything is going to be better when Daddy comes back,” Ann would hear her older sister say. She kept playing those words in her head, but they just never seemed to be enough no matter how hard she tried.
Ann Simmons, the second of three girls, would have had a challenging childhood no matter what. No one could endure the physical and emotional abuse her mother, Sister Nadeen Simmons, unleashed and come out unscathed.
The toxic seeds of revenge, anger, and promiscuity that her mother unknowingly planted within her have begun to come forth. When Ann’s father leaves because he believes he is obeying the voice of God, and her older sister Patsy goes away on a ministry trip for the summer, Ann finds love, comfort, and security in the arms of someone else’s lover.
But her spirit of revenge against her Father and Sister will have unintended consequences that she never could have prepared for.
Reprobate Ways: The Unveiling of Ann is the second in a trilogy about the Simmons women by author Felicia Brookins.
